Youth Mission Stay 2018
Dear Rising 6th through 8th Graders,
You are invited this summer to Be Doers of the Word!
Christ calls us to be “doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22). The “word” simply means the word of God, or Jesus’ teachings to serve the poor, the sick, and the needy. During the 2018 Mission Stay, we will listen to the Word and put our faith into action! We will have loads of fun, too!
If devouring a giant chocolate milkshake at Crown Candy sounds good to you, after you just did yard work for homeless mothers and their babies, this might be the opportunity for you. If making the biggest splash at the pool party feels like the right thing to do, after you just collected bags of litter in the summer sun, then this could be a very good fit!
Each morning we will gather at St. Peter’s for ice breakers and prayer to prepare us for the meaningful day of service and fun that lies ahead. Then we’ll carpool to a local non-profit agency, varying each day, and do service work until noon. We will then picnic or eat at a restaurant, followed by a fun activity around the city!
Our adventures will take us to City Museum, the zoo, a pool party, and a surprise! Not to mention all the ice cream and fun restaurants in between. Our service partners will include the Haven of Grace, Beyond Housing, Sunshine Ministries, and a fourth to-be-determined. Projects may vary but they will likely include the following: baking cookies, trash pick-up, organizing, cleaning, yard work, and gardening.
The Mission Stay runs Tuesday, June 19 – Friday, June 22, from 8:30am-4pm. The deadline to register is April 16. Ten spots remain! Claim your spot soon by emailing Maria at . We hope to see you this summer as a Doer of the Word!
